As we previously looked for the specific model of SUV, we found the one that suits us and our trip, at the best price and payment method, and we have it in our hands, it is now where we get to work.
The first thing we do is look for all kinds of information about the dimensions of the truck inside and out, where there are holes, where you can find everything that has already been done by someone else, where it can facilitate us and save a lot of time.
The model that I am personally going to share is a 2008 Hummer H3 3.7L.
It was January 2022 when I buy the SUV, cold temperatures hitting the city of Bruxelles and I had no garage where to build de SUV. So it was time to be on the computer organising everything that would take time to work on the streets, like cutting wood pannels, ensembling the furniture, preparing prototypes, and so on.
So I started with the simplest things during the winter, and it was the exterior of the car and putting my hands on the design of the interior furniture.
Let's see our summary list of everything that has to fit in, let's break it down:
Space for one dog: Assuming a dog crate or bed, this can be relatively quick to set up and secure.
Little Safe box: Depending on its size and weight, it should be manageable to find a secure spot for it.
Portable battery: If it's a compact portable power station, it should fit easily in the trunk or backseat.
90L of water: This will likely take some time as you may need to distribute the water containers throughout the car for balanced weight distribution.
15M hose: Can be coiled and placed in the trunk or storage area.
12v Water pump: Can be installed near the water containers for easy access.
2x Wheel leveler: These should be placed securely in the trunk or storage space.
Shovel: Can be stored along the sides of the trunk or in the roof cargo box if available.
Porta Potty: May require some adjustments to find a suitable spot for easy access.
Frigo: Depending on its size, it may need careful placement to ensure it doesn't shift during driving.
2x Stoves + Pizza Oven: These should be secured in a way that prevents them from moving during transit.
300W Foldable Solar Panels: These can be placed on the roof if you have a roof rack, or securely inside the car if there's space.
Table to cook: Can be folded and stored in the trunk or backseat.
Gas Bottle 3L: Should be securely placed in the trunk or storage space.
Some Storage Space: The challenge here is organizing all the items in a way that maximizes space and ensures safety while driving.
Considering the complexity of arranging and securing all these items, it's advisable to plan the packing process in advance. It's essential to ensure that heavy items are properly distributed to maintain stability and avoid obstructing the driver's view. Taking the time to pack thoughtfully will make the journey safer and more enjoyable.
I like the orange-yellow colour from The RGB values for Matthews Paint Yellow Hummer (MP05839) are 250, 196, 83 and the HEX code is #FAC453. Very well maintained, with little marks here and there, but in perfect condition.
The silver and the black it's a bit too much for me. I want to cover the silver, but only leave the front bumper as it is.
We started from the exterior and that counts the painting, so we did protect her by doing some polishing.
To protect it from scratching and to create the style I wanted to give to this car, we all know the colour itself calls the attention of people on the streets, so I wanted something more simple and calm. 2 colours instead of 3 were better for my ideas. Black and yellow becomes now the palette π¨ for the door handles, mirrors, sidebars, and soon the wheels.
The front bumper and mini details are the exception on the silver one.
And meanwhile, keep testing the car travelling to Amsterdam on a weekend thinking that soon the wheels are going to be painted black.
Using black wheels for an off-road car offers several benefits that can enhance both the performance and aesthetics of the vehicle. Here are some key advantages:
Durability: Black wheels are often coated with robust finishes, such as powder coating or paint, making them more resistant to scratches, chips, and corrosion. This durability is essential for off-road vehicles that encounter rough terrains, gravel, and debris.
Easy Maintenance: Black wheels are generally easier to maintain and clean compared to lighter-coloured wheels. Dust, mud, and dirt are less visible on black surfaces, ensuring that your off-road car retains a cleaner appearance even after challenging adventures.
Visual Appeal: Black wheels can add a stylish and rugged appearance to your off-road car. Many enthusiasts find that black wheels complement various vehicle colours and create a more aggressive or assertive look.
Heat Dissipation: Black wheels tend to absorb and dissipate heat better than lighter-coloured wheels. During intense off-road driving or heavy braking, this can help prevent excessive heat buildup and potential damage to the brakes.
Hide Brake Dust: Off-road driving often leads to increased brake dust buildup, which can be more noticeable on lighter-coloured wheels. Black wheels can effectively hide or minimize the appearance of brake dust, maintaining a cleaner appearance for longer periods.
Blend with Tire Sidewalls: In many off-road tires, the sidewalls have black or dark-coloured patterns. Black wheels can seamlessly blend with these sidewalls, providing a cohesive and unified look for the entire wheel-tire assembly.
Customization Options: Black wheels come in various designs, finishes, and sizes, allowing for plenty of customization options. This means you can choose black wheels that best match your off-road car's style and individual preferences.
Improved Resale Value: While this might not directly affect performance, vehicles with black wheels often have a broader appeal in the aftermarket. As a result, when it comes time to sell or trade your off-road car, having black wheels can contribute to a potentially higher resale value.
Camouflage: For off-road enthusiasts who engage in activities like hunting or wildlife photography, black wheels can provide some degree of camouflage in certain environments, helping the vehicle blend in more effectively.
In summary, black wheels offer a combination of durability, easy maintenance, enhanced aesthetics, and functional benefits for off-road vehicles. Their rugged appearance, ability to hide dirt and brake dust, and customization options make them a popular choice among those who seek both style and performance for their off-road adventures.
We have also changed the tires to STT pro-Discoverer Cooper to an all-terrain wheel set. Why did we get a set of all-terrain tires?
Improved Traction: Off-road tires have deeper and more aggressive tread patterns, designed to grip uneven and challenging terrains like mud, sand, and rocks. This improved traction allows the Hummer H3 to tackle off-road trails and obstacles with greater ease and stability.
Enhanced Off-Road Performance: With off-road tires, the Hummer H3 gains better off-road handling and control. The tires' design and construction enable the vehicle to maintain traction on loose surfaces, steep inclines, and slippery conditions.
Durability and Puncture Resistance: Off-road tires are built to withstand harsh conditions encountered during off-road adventures. They have reinforced sidewalls that provide better resistance to punctures, cuts, and abrasions, reducing the risk of tire damage in rugged environments.
Increased Ground Clearance: Many off-road tires have larger sidewalls, contributing to increased ground clearance. With more distance between the ground and the vehicle's undercarriage, the Hummer H3 can navigate over larger obstacles without getting stuck or damaged.
All-Weather Performance: Off-road tires are designed to perform well in various weather conditions, including rain and snow. The tread patterns help to channel water away from the tire's surface, reducing the risk of hydroplaning and improving grip in wet conditions.
Versatility: Off-road tires allow the Hummer H3 to venture into remote and challenging terrains, expanding the range of outdoor adventures. Whether it's exploring unpaved roads, off-road trails, or camping in rugged environments, the versatility of off-road tires enhances the overall experience.
Off-Road Aesthetics: Off-road tires often have a rugged and aggressive appearance, enhancing the visual appeal of the Hummer H3 for enthusiasts who enjoy the "overlander" or off-road look.
In conclusion, equipping the Hummer H3 with off-road tires significantly improves its off-road capabilities, providing better traction, durability, and all-weather performance. The increased ground clearance and versatility allow for more adventurous outdoor experiences, making off-road tires a valuable upgrade for off-road enthusiasts.
The option of adding a proper roof rack to the hummer was a first thought because you win a lot of storage. The roof rack is essential if you're going to be carrying on all the off-road tools.
The issue I found was that the original bars of the car were very solidly attached to the roof, and the keys couldn't open the bars. My plan on the beginning was to cut the roof and have an electric pop-up tent, but regulations on this country doesn't make the job easy, so I thought on a James Baroud tent. These roof bars can easily hold 200kg.

A rooftop tent (RTT) for a car offers several compelling benefits that make it a popular choice for outdoor enthusiasts and travellers. Here are some of the key advantages:
Easy Setup and Convenience: Roof top tents are designed for quick and straightforward setup. Within minutes, you can unfold and extend the tent, providing a comfortable sleeping space. This ease of use is particularly beneficial after long drives or when arriving at a campsite late at night, saving time and effort compared to traditional ground tents.
Elevated Sleeping Platform: By being elevated off the ground, rooftop tents offer better protection from various elements such as rocks, insects, and small animals. This elevation also provides a safer sleeping environment in regions with potentially dangerous wildlife.
Comfort and Support: Roof top tents often come with a built-in foam mattress, offering superior comfort compared to sleeping on the ground. The quality of sleep is typically better, which is essential for an enjoyable and energizing camping experience.
Space Efficiency: Unlike ground tents that require flat and debris-free terrain, rooftop tents can be set up on any stable surface. This flexibility is especially useful in rugged terrains or crowded campgrounds where finding a suitable spot for a traditional tent may be challenging.
All-Weather Capability: Roof-top tents are designed to withstand various weather conditions. They are constructed with durable and weather-resistant materials, providing a dry and cosy shelter during rain, snow, or wind. Moreover, their elevated design prevents water from pooling beneath the tent.
Improved Ventilation: Many rooftop tents feature windows, doors, and vents that enhance airflow. Proper ventilation helps to reduce condensation inside the tent and creates a more pleasant atmosphere during warm weather.
Security and Peace of Mind: When you're sleeping off the ground, you have an added sense of security, knowing you are less susceptible to curious wildlife or potential intruders. Lockable zippers on most rooftop tents further enhance security.
Off-Road Compatibility: Rooftop tents are an excellent option for overland and off-road adventures. They don't require flat ground, allowing you to camp in remote and rugged locations, offering unmatched experiences and stunning views.
Fuel Efficiency: Unlike towing a trailer or using a camper van, rooftop tents have minimal impact on a vehicle's aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. When not in use, they are compact and don't significantly alter the vehicle's overall profile.
Versatility: Roof top tents are not permanently fixed to the vehicle, unlike other camping setups. When you're not camping, you can easily remove the tent and use your vehicle for other purposes.
In conclusion, a rooftop tent for a car combines the comfort of a traditional tent with the convenience and flexibility of being elevated on the vehicle's roof. Its ease of setup, space efficiency, weather resistance, and off-road compatibility make it an appealing choice for outdoor adventurers seeking memorable camping experiences.

Leather, while durable and luxurious, is susceptible to damage from pets, especially their sharp claws and potential accidents. Protecting the leather not only preserves the appearance and value of your car's interior but also ensures a comfortable and safe environment for both you and your furry companions. Here's why:
Scratches and Tears: Pets, particularly dogs and cats, may scratch or dig into the leather while entering or exiting the car. Over time, these scratches can accumulate and lead to unsightly tears or damage to the leather's surface.
Stains and Odors: Animals can have accidents in the car, causing urine or other liquids to seep into the leather. If not promptly cleaned, this can lead to stubborn stains and unpleasant odors that are difficult to remove.
Allergens: Pet hair and dander can accumulate on the leather, triggering allergies for both passengers and pets. Regularly protecting and cleaning the leather helps reduce allergen buildup.
Resale Value: Maintaining the condition of the leather interior can positively impact the resale value of your car. A well-preserved interior, including protected leather, can make a significant difference when it comes to selling or trading in your vehicle.
To protect the leather of the doors when traveling with animals:
Seat Covers and Protectors: Consider using seat covers or door protectors made from durable and easy-to-clean materials like waterproof fabrics or synthetic leather. These covers create a barrier between your pet and the leather, shielding it from potential damage.
Pet Restraints: Secure your pets properly while traveling to minimize their movements and reduce the risk of accidental scratches. Use pet harnesses, seat belts, or travel carriers to keep them in place during the journey.
Regular Cleaning: Promptly clean any accidents or spills that occur on the leather surface. Use leather-safe cleaning products and follow the manufacturer's instructions to maintain the leather's appearance and prevent stains and odors.

We started this project with a very simple fridge to use less energy as possible, but in the end, searching for ice and keeping the right temperature during the hot summer, we were going in the wrong direction.
Having an electrical fridge (also known as a portable refrigerator or car fridge) versus not having one on your car travel can make a significant difference in the convenience, flexibility, and overall experience of your journey. Let's explore the key differences:
Temperature Control: An electrical fridge allows you to precisely control the internal temperature, keeping your food and beverages cool or frozen as needed. On the other hand, without a fridge, you are limited to using coolers with ice packs, which may not maintain consistent temperatures and can lead to food spoilage over time.
Longer Storage: With an electrical fridge, you can store perishable items for an extended period, making it ideal for longer road trips or camping adventures. Without a fridge, you'll need to replenish ice frequently, limiting the duration you can keep food fresh.
Less Reliance on Ice: A car fridge operates on electricity and doesn't require ice, saving you the hassle of purchasing, storing, and dealing with melting ice. This frees up space in your vehicle and eliminates the risk of water leakage.
More Food Options: With a fridge, you have a wider range of food options for your travels, including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and even frozen meals. Without a fridge, you may be limited to non-perishable items and foods that don't require refrigeration.
Travel Flexibility: An electrical fridge provides greater flexibility in your travel plans, as you can venture into remote areas or off-grid locations without worrying about the availability of fresh food. Without a fridge, you may need to plan your meals and stops more carefully.
Energy Source: Car fridges can run on various power sources, such as the car's battery, solar panels, or external power outlets. Ensure you have the appropriate power setup to support the fridge during your trip.
Organization and Space Management: A fridge allows you to keep your food organized and easily accessible. Without a fridge, you may need to deal with the limited space in coolers, potentially leading to disorganization and difficulty finding items.
In conclusion, an electrical fridge enhances the convenience, storage capacity, and food options during your car travel, making it an invaluable companion for extended journeys and outdoor adventures. It grants you the freedom to explore remote locations, store perishable foods, and enjoy a variety of meals while on the road. However, if you opt not to have one, you can still enjoy your trip by carefully planning your food supplies and using coolers effectively.
